My Return to Painting

Hello beautiful people.

You are getting this email because many years ago, 7 to be exact, you were part of my Atha community. Through Atha I made jewelry and scarves with artisans in Nepal and Bali.

Atha, the fashion brand, is no more but I’ve returned to its roots —painting.

Earlier this year I was getting ready to launch a tech incubator for women founders creating their first app when I started questioning what I *really* wanted and how I wanted to spend the next year, five years, and so on.

As it got closer to the launch it didn't feel right.

My mentor said —

“Whatever you do you'll need to give it your all, shouldn’t it be something you really want?”

I didn't launch on the incubator.

Instead I got a studio and started painting again.

Painting was always something I wanted to return to, but I'd made up this story that I could only do it AFTER I'd made my other businesses work.

Fast forward I threw that false belief out and gave myself a big permission slip to do what I so desired.

Following my desire unlocked tons of joy and set in motion opportunities I couldn't have asked for.

Going forward these emails will be about what’s happening in the studio. If you’d like to stay on the list, wonderful - I can’t wait to reconnect!

If not, I completely understand. We’ll still be friends. You can unsubscribe here.

In the coming emails I’ll tell you about the collection I painted this summer, but for now I simply wanted to say hello again!

I'd love to hear from YOU. Please hit reply and tell me what you’re up to. This list was built up one trunk show and craft fair at a time so I’ve literally met almost all of you in real life!

I look forward to sharing more soon.

My Warmest,

Michelle

PS: I also started a new instagram.

This next collection is the start of a mythical world. It shines a light on the destructive forces of our own minds, how we hold ourselves back from our deepest desires and the things we do to strengthen our energy, fight back and be the person we want to be. In this mythical world there are — beautiful beasts caught in battle ancient foremothers in magical lands embodied dancing in the streets But first I started with 2 small abstract paintings. I am sharing the first one today. This one...

TLDR: Auction happening for 2 paintings from this series, details dropping tomorrow. Select paintings from Hero's Cake “I don’t need any brushes, I won’t be painting” I was shopping for supplies in a dark stone basement turned art store. It was 2009 and I was at a residency in a small medieval village in Umbria. My mission was to learn how to draw from observation. I wanted to get better at sketching out my ideas for sculptures and my installations. I specifically did NOT want to paint. I...
